Gives experienced attendants new tools to sensitively approach issues such as fertility, abuse, disability, mental health, and other personal issues that arise at the mikveh.

We are providing mikveh attendants with professional training to ensure that women have a positive mikveh experience and that attendants have the appropriate skills for crisis intervention and education.

Mikveh Attendant Training Course and Continuing Education

A mikveh attendant ensures a Jewish woman has entirely immersed in the ritual bath. The mikveh is attended by thousands of women on a monthly basis, and the attendant often finds herself face-to-face with signs of crisis in the lives of the women in her community, due to the more intimate nature of the mikveh. Traditionally, mikveh attendants have been trained purely on the halakhic (Jewish legal) aspects of immersion and may lack the necessary skills to handle sensitive, dangerous, or even potentially life-threatening situations, such as abuse or health concerns. With appropriate training, these women have the potential to be change agents and resources to the women of their communities.

In the Eden Mikveh Attendant Training Course, attendants learn advanced communication skills, how to identify and address crucial issues, how to direct those in need to comprehensive help and support, and how to provide the best mikveh experience.

The twelve-session course includes lectures, group discussions, and role playing and processing. Topics covered in the course are taught by experts in their fields and include:

  • Communication
  • Abuse
  • Postpartum Depression
  • Breast Health
  • OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
  • Body Image
  • Illness and Disability
  • Fear of Water
  • Infertility

Graduates of our course meet regularly with the course facilitator for Continuing Education lectures, allowing them to regroup as a professional network, discuss their experiences in the field and consult with one another.

“The way we did the role plays, and then discusses the different signs and their relevance for our work, opened my eyes.” -D., mikveh attendant of 30 years
