This course offers a certification from the Ministry of Religious Services and trains mikveh attendants (balaniot) to handle a wide range of distressing situations, halachic issues, and complex medical conditions that may arise in the mikveh. Thousands of women visit the mikveh every month. Since the mikveh is a relatively intimate space, the attendant may notice signs of distress among women in her community. In principle, the attendant's role is to ensure that the woman immersing in the mikveh is fully covered by water. In the past, training for mikveh attendants was solely halachic, meaning they lacked the necessary preparation to handle sensitive, potentially dangerous, or even life-threatening situations faced by the women. With proper training, mikveh attendants have the potential to be "agents of change"โ€”a source of support and a valuable resource for women in the community.
