Provides knowledge about BRCA, outlines the risks associated with being a BRCA carrier and gives halakhic and medical guidance in making informed choices around testing.
Straight Talk about BRCA is an evening to empower the community about the BRCA gene and its effects.
1 in 40 Ashkenazi Jews – men and women – carries a BRCA gene mutation. Since BRCA has been linked to breast, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic cancers it is important to be informed about the current medical understanding of BRCA and its effects. Similarly, there are now genetic tests which can determine who carries a BRCA gene mutation. This course offers knowledge and information about BRCA, its effects, current testing, and potential procedures if one is BRCA positive, along with guidance on the halakhic issues surrounding these topics.
